Rosca de Reyes (Three Kings Bread)

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 7 tbsp La Favorita Margarine
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 1/2 tsp active dry yeast (or 1 oz fresh yeast)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • Orange and lemon zest
  • Candied fruit (optional)
  • Beaten egg for brushing
  • Powdered sugar for decorating

Directions

  1. In a bowl, mix the flour with the yeast. Add the La Favorita Margarine and mix well.
  2. Add the sugar, the beaten eggs, the warm milk, and the orange and lemon zest. Knead until you have a smooth, even dough.
  3. Shape the dough into a ball and let it rest in a warm place until it doubles in size, about 1-2 hours.
  4. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  5. After resting, knead the dough again and shape it into a ring. Place the rosca on a baking sheet with parchment paper in the center.
  6. If you like, you can decorate the rosca with candied fruit.
  7. Brush the rosca with beaten egg and bake for about 25-30 minutes, or until golden.
  8. Once it's ready, take it out of the oven and let it cool. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
