Pristiños (Ecuadorian Christmas Fritters)

Ingredients

  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 3 tbsp La Favorita Margarine
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp orange zest
  • 1 tsp lemon zest

Directions

  1. In a bowl, sift the flour with the baking powder and make a well in the center.
  2. Add the melted La Favorita Margarine, the eggs, the sugar, the orange zest, and the lemon zest. Mix well until you have a smooth, even dough. Let it rest for 30 minutes.
  3. Roll the dough out on a floured surface until it's about 1/8 inch thick.
  4. Cut the dough into rectangles or long shapes with a knife.
  5. Make a small slit in the center of each rectangle and pull one end through it to give it the traditional pristiño shape.
  6. In a pot, heat the La Favorita Oil over medium heat. Fry the pristiños until golden on both sides.
  7. Remove and serve, drizzled with honey to taste.
