Homemade Croissants

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup La Favorita Margarine
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 2/3 cup warm milk
  • 1 beaten egg for brushing

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, mix the flour, the sugar, the salt, and the dry yeast.
  2. Cut the La Favorita Margarine into small cubes and add it to the flour mixture. Work it in quickly with your hands until you have coarse crumbs.
  3. Add the warm milk and mix until a smooth dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough lightly on a floured surface and shape it into a rectangle.
  5. Fold the bottom third of the dough over the middle third, then fold the top third over the center, as if you were folding a letter.
  6. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate it for 30 minutes.
  7. After chilling, roll the dough out into a rectangle again and repeat the folding process.
  8. Refrigerate the dough for another 30 minutes.
  9. Preheat the oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  10. Roll the dough out into a rectangle 1/4 inch thick and cut it into triangles.
  11. Roll the triangles up from the base toward the tip to form the croissants.
  12. Place the croissants on the baking sheet and let them rest for 30 minutes.
  13. Brush the croissants with beaten egg and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden and crisp.
